The Hive Silsden CIO Trustees

In April 2016 a group of four Silsden people, including Jill Cook and Janet Russell, took over the management of the building from Bradford Council by forming a Community Interest Company (CIC), in order to 'Stop the Youth Club from Closing'.

In late 2018, a decision was made to transfer from a CIC to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).  The CIO was formed in March 2019, with a board of Trustees:

Janet Russell who worked as a self employed musician for most of her life, but has also worked as a Medical Secretary/PA in a language school, and as a temp for various businesses.

Keith Moran who had set up 'Bricks4kids' and ran a successful business in Crosshills.

Jana Young, who retired from running her own business, having previously worked in Education both in the UK and abroad.

Jill Cook stepped down as a Director of the CIC and became the Centre Manager for the CIO to focus on the day to day running of The Hive.

Keith had always expressed his desire to help set up the CIO but that he would leave as soon as new board members were recruited as he did not have the time to provide his full attention as a board member on a long term basis.  After a recruitment drive, we managed to secure a further two Board members in April 2019.

Helen Aked, a Chartered Accountant, joined as Treasurer and brought a wealth of financial and business experience.

Andy Robertson has extensive experience in youth work and instigating several youth projects over a wide geographical area.

Piers Lane, a celebrant, who moved to Silsden from France in 2019 and 'popped in' to introduce himself to The Hive team, became our next member to join later in 2019.

he Trustees work together with the Hive management team to plan for the future. Together we consider how to develop The Hive to make it the best possible place for the people of Silsden and the surrounding area to experience all sorts of events and activities.

In 2022 both Jana & Piers left the board. Jana decided to spend more time enjoying her retirement and Piers' business as a Celebrant was growing at a rapid rate.

In 2023 we were joined by:

Stephanie Calvert-Smith a true Cobbydaler and someone who not only attended the Youth Club in the 80's but also ran a successful business in the town, Dogsbody & Friends. Stephanie brings with her many skills from business, including management skills and data protection.

Rachel Miller works for AWARE, who provide support for parents and children with Autism (with or without a diagnosis). Rachel has had connections with the team at The Hive for a number of years and it seemed like a natural progression to join the board.  Rachel brings with her HR knowledge, project management and governance.

Helen Aked resigned her role as Treasurer as her work circumstances changed. Helen kindly offered her financial support until we had a replacement Treasurer on board.

In May 2023 Mark Wogden, a retired Architect, joined us and we are looking forward to the ideas that Mark will bring to the team.

Peter Britton joined us in June 2023 as Treasurer. A qualified accountant and someone who had worked with charities before, he knew straight away we needed a regular fundraising stream and introduced The Hive 100 Club.

and in January 2024, Mark Whitrod joined the board. Mark comes with a wealth of experience in bid writing, so we are hopeful he can write some large bids in the future.

Unfortunately Peter had to leave us in July 2024 due to personal reasons and so we are now on the hunt once more for a Treasurer to join our team.
