1980 : The Hive was built
The Hive building was originally built in 1980 as a Youth Club run 5 days a week by Bradford Youth Services.
2010 : The Children’s Centre first opens
Daisy Chain Children’s Centre was added to the building as part of the Sure start scheme in 2010 to run groups and support for families and 0-5’s through Bradford Children’s Services.
2016: Residents take over
A group of 4 Silsden residents set up Silsden Youth Community Interest Company (CIC) and took over the running of the Youth Centre & Children’s Centre from Bradford Council in April 2016. The first priority was to pursue various avenues to generate income, resulting in various groups and businesses hiring The Hive as well as lots of people hiring the venue for parties.
2016 : The Tour came to Silsden
Our first big event was The Tour De Yorkshire Party in June 2016, which was a great success.
2017 : We got our own identity
In 2017 we put out a poll to re-name the venue so people would recognise who we were, The Hive was the chosen name.
2017 : Stay and Play
In late 2017 we launched our own stay and play sessions, run by volunteers.
2018 : Fireworks return to Silsden for bonfire night
In 2018, we held the first Fireworks & Family Fun Night, bringing the firework display back to Silsden. Tickets were in such demand that we sold out 2 weeks before the event. This led to us making this an annual event.
2019 : The Hive becomes a CIO
In 2019 we transferred from a CIC to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), with 5 new trustees on board to take The Hive to the next level.
Looking to the future
We are now a registered with the Charity Commission as The Hive Silsden CIO and our registration number is 1182526. As a registered charity, this opens up more opportunities for funding to help put in place the projects planned for the future.
